coffee & honey mask

coffee & honey mask

Who doesn’t love a mask that leaves your skin feeling oh so baby smooth in just 30 minutes? I love trying new exfoliating masks and just a few weeks ago I started using this coffee and honey based mask that I am about to share with you.

This mask has the following ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp ground coffee

  • 1 tbsp raw honey

  • juice of 1/2 lemon

  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder

Ground coffee is really good for exfoliation and can be used all over your body, not just the face. It easily removes dead skin cells, tightens, and brightens your skin in a matter of minutes!

Raw honey is the other main part of this mask and you know I love anything that has to do with honey! Seriously though, honey is a natural source of amazingness and we should be using it whenever we can in place of artificial and toxic ingredients. Honey will hydrate your skin so well that you really don’t need a ton of moisturizer after rinsing this mask off. It has great antibacterial and anti-inflammatory compounds, which combined with the coffee make an excellent duo.

The next ingredient I listed is lemon juice. I prefer the juice from a fresh lemon instead of the bottled stuff - but if that is all you have at home, it is fine to use. Lemon juice is also an excellent antibacterial component to this mask and will help even out the skin tone.

The last thing I added was 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder.  Cinnamon is a natural anti-oxidant as well as anti-microbial. You will notice that after applying this mask, you will feel some slight tingling yet soothing sensation. This is the cinnamon going to work.

So, once you have gathered the ingredients, go ahead and mix them together until well blended.  I usually use a brush to mix and apply on my face so my fingers don’t have to get so messy. You can also massage your face as you apply the mixture using the same application brush.

I recommend using a small bowl with a lid so you can save the mask for future uses. It is good for about a week. I have this small glass bowl with a lid that I only use for this purpose. Over the course of a few days, the mask will be thicker and maybe even a bit sticky instead of the initial watery texture. Don’t worry, that is normal and you will still get the same fabulous results.

After applying the mask to your face, leave it on for 15-30 minutes. Like I mentioned before, you will feel a slight tingling sensation but nothing should be painful. If it is, rinse it off immediately!

When you are ready to wash it off, scrub your face in a circular motion to really get the full benefits of all these amazing ingredients. You will notice that even your hands, from just those few minutes of rubbing your face, will be softer.

Once you have washed it off, follow with your regular moisturizer or none at all. Whatever suits your skin!

Remember to always do a patch test before trying anything new on your skin.

I hope you will give this mask a try and if you do, please leave your feedback on how it went!
